Borda Garden The Borda Garden is one of the most famous monuments in Cuernavaca; it was the residence of rich families since the colonial times. The Borda Gardens are named for the builder of the residence, Don Jose de la Borda. Surrounded by moss covered walls, the splendid gardens, shaded paths and refreshing fountains and pools form a cool refuge within the city. A small museum is located within the grounds near the entrance to the gardens displaying exhibits of manuscripts, artifacts and photos of the era.
It was Don Jose's son, Manuel, who performed the landscaping, importing trees and plants from distant parts, earning it the classification of a botanical garden. Don Manuel designed the fountains and pathways and in 1783 inaugurated the ornamental lake that supplies water to the gardens.
