Sinaloa State - Capital

Apart from the Capital city there are other attractions and towns found within the State of Sinaloa. They are:

Mazatlan IslandMazatlan

Location: Mazatlan Island

The Spaniards called the new land Mazatlan Island in honor of the three islands facing the bay. During the colonial era, Mazatlan became a major port, particularly for gold, and in the early 19th century, the arrival of the Germans, Italians and North Americans transformed the area into a cosmopolitan city.

Mazatlan is one of the country's oldest tourist resorts.


Icehouse Hill (Cerro de la Nevería)

Location: Mazatlan

The Spaniards first settled on this hill, which was originally known as "Lookout Hill." It was used at one time to store ice brought by ship from San Francisco for consumption by Mazatlan families and as a kind of freezer for food and fish products.


Shield of Sinaloa and Mazatlan (Escudo de Sinaloa y Mazatlan)

Location: Mazatlan

The shield, which is located at the end of Olas Altas road, illustrates the four most important historical cities in the state: Culiacan, El Fuerte, Rosario and Mazatlan. On the reverse side of the structure is Mazatlan's shield, which manifests the city's geography, astrology, ethnic traditions and economy.


Archeological Museum (Museo Arquelógico)

Location: Mazatlan

The museum, at Sixto Osuna 76 near Olas Altas road, is replete with relics and information about Mazatlan's pre-Hispanic roots. It blends gothic exterior architecture, particularly on the facade, with neoclassic and baroque influences.


Los Mochis

Location: Los Mochis City

Los MochisThe wide and clean streets of Los Mochis city are lined with attractions. Downtown you can stroll through the thickly forested Sinaloa Park which has a golf course, several hotels and excellent restaurants which specialize in meat and seafood dishes.

A popular activity among youth in Los Mochis is the "Leyvazo", wherein people park their cars or cruise along Leyva Boulevard in downtown Los Mochis. People also gather for a drink or barbeque under "Los Álamos" which are poplar trees that line the highway to Topolobampo Bay. As well as these activities, many residents of the city enjoy to visit the nearby beach of El Maviri. Many people visit this semi-desert island to spend a day at the beach or enjoy the seafood delicacies.

Travelers who enjoy adventure will find their visit to Los Mochis exhilarating.
