The the State of Tlaxcala name originates of the Nahuatl and means "Place of corn bread or of tortillas of corn". Tlaxcala was an independent nation in pre-Columbian times, never conquered by the Aztecs. The assistance of the Tlaxcaltecas was of instrumental importance to Hernán Cortés in his conquest of Mexico in the early 16th century.

Tiny Tlaxcala may be Mexico's smallest state but it is one of the most typical Mexican in its traditions, Textile and fighting bulls are traditional and still important products of the state. The colonial heritage of Tlaxcala and its spas have attracted tourists to the area.
Small state with colonial charm and alot to offer.
